Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before your first Indie Munich night.

What is Indie Munich?
Indie Munich is a community for independent musicians in Munich. We organize open mics, song slams, workshops, and networking events, run a musician database, and have our own HQ with a bookable rehearsal room. The goal: give local artists places to perform, learn, and connect.
How do I perform at an open mic?
All upcoming events and open performance slots are listed on our Calendly page. Pick an event, sign up, show up with your songs — that’s it.
Do I need to be an experienced musician?
Not at all. Our open mics are explicitly beginner-friendly — many people play their very first public performance with us. The audience is supportive, and everyone remembers their own first time on stage.
What’s the difference between an open mic and a song slam?
An open mic is an open stage: anyone can sign up for a slot and play. A song slam focuses on original music — songwriters presenting their own songs to the crowd in a showcase-style night.
I don’t perform — can I still join?
Absolutely. Music fans, photographers, videographers, sound engineers, hosts, and helping hands are all part of the community. Come to listen, or get involved as a volunteer and gain hands-on experience at real events.
How do I find other musicians to play with?
Two ways: come to our events and meet people in person, or browse the Munich Musician’s Database — a community directory of local artists, bands, and solo performers.
How can I book the rehearsal room?
Our rehearsal room at Indie Munich HQ (Riesenfeldstraße 16) can be booked online via Calendly. Details about the room are in our Patreon post.
How can I support Indie Munich?
You can support us on Patreon, make a one-time donation via PayPal, or volunteer at events. Every bit helps keep the stages open.
How do I stay up to date?
Join our WhatsApp group or Telegram, follow us on Instagram, or join the Facebook group.
I run a venue / want to collaborate. Who do I talk to?
Great — we love working with venues and hosts. Email us at info@indiemunich.com and the co-founders will get back to you.
